If you are new to the Railway Tavern and would like to know a little more about us, then we will be delighted to share more of our ongoing story through this blog.

Where we are and where we come from.
Located in the village of Fahan on the shores of Lough Swilly on the stunning Inishowen peninsula in North Donegal, the Railway Tavern has a long history and tradition of welcoming visitors and of providing refreshments. This all started when the Railway Tavern was originally a station house for the Londonderry & Lough Swilly Railway Company. From the 1880s refreshments were provided for those travelling between Derry and Buncrana and eventually a small licenced premises existed.

Music and functions.
The building has retained much of its original charm and character and is now a busy bar, restaurant and function space. Regular traditional music sessions and live music nights are held, and the function room of the Railway Tavern welcomes intimate weddings, parties and gatherings as well as meetings and conferences.

New ownership.
Recently purchased by Harcourt Developments, owners of such esteemed tourism and hospitality initiatives as Titanic Belfast and Lough Eske Castle in Donegal, there is a palpable excitement to be felt around the Railway Tavern as it enters a new phase of its development.

Menus – much more than steaks and burgers!
The open fire grill in the restaurant is still the central feature of the menu and watching your steak or the renowned ‘Stationmaster Burger’ being grilled adds to the theatre of the meal. Around that the menus have now been expanded and enhanced with new flavours and offerings so that if steak is not your choice of the day you can choose from fresh seafood, delicious vegetarian dishes and a range of other options. Local produce is used where possible and freshness and taste are the cornerstones of the new menus. There are still the options of a great value Early Bird Menu or for those looking to sit back and treat themselves to the full menu there is also the A la Carte option. Children are also most welcome, and they have their very own Railway Tavern menu to choose from.

Make a booking or call in.

We look forward to seeing you soon and we will also continue to update you through our blog on new food developments, drinks and entertainment as they happen.
